I remember when I was first starting on my entrepreneurial journey all those years ago one thing quickie became clear. If I were to be successful, mindset is where it all starts.

However adjusting your mindset can be a confusing and complex journey to undertake and it is easy to be overwhelmed by the information out there ending up frustrated and disheartened.

Whenever I find my confused or overwhelmed by a situation, I always say one thing to myself:

Be like water

I first heard about this from none other than the legend Bruce Lee. Here’s the quote:

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”#

Water can adapt to any situation. If it gets too cold; it becomes ice. Too hot; it becomes steam. There isn’t a situation water can’t adapt to.

Another saying you may have heard is It’s a marathon, not a sprint. It’s our natural inclination to want success immediately, however, unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out like that.

Success is often built over many years and consistency is a big factor in this. Think of a powerful, fast flowing river.

It doesn’t start out this way. Even the biggest of rivers start out at a source, often a small puddle which turns into a stream that slowly erodes away at the sides becoming a large, deeper and stronger.

Your business is the same.

So, If you ever find yourself frustrated or overwhelmed just remember: be like water.
